Tottenham vs Brighton Player Ratings

One man bests Trussard's win over Spurs: Player ratings for Tottenham and Brighton

Tottenham squandered a fantastic opportunity to increase their grip on the top four by unsettling a brilliant Brighton side who claimed their second win in north London in a week.

Quality was low in the first half, and Brighton looked their best as they came close to opening the scoring. Talking points, as is often the case, revolve around the referee, with Dejan Kulusevski lucky to stay on the field for an elbow while Enock Mwepu was sacked in the first half to avoid a similar fate for Brighton.

Indeed, it was a lot in the second half, with neither side offering much in and around the penalty areas involved, although Graham Potter’s side came closer again and in the end, in the last minute of normal time, snatched a goal in the only moment The real quality in the game.

Bypassing Eric Dier, Trussard put in a nice finishing touch to the outside of his foot to deny Hugo Lloris a chance, and awarded Brighton a well-deserved three.

So, how did the players perform?

Tottenham

Hugo Lloris – 6

He didn’t have much to do for most of the match but was capable when called upon. It can do little for the goal.

Emerson Royal – 5

Significant drop in offensive quality from Matt Doherty. The center-back is a necessity to improve the summer transfer window.

Christian Romero – 6

He was crucified on the ball and was trying to get things done, but to no avail.

Eric Dyer – 6

Solid but not surprising, Dyer was guilty of selling him a doll for the sole purpose, his only mistake in the game.

Ben Davies – 6

I made a small mistake, but couldn’t make a difference on either end.

Sergio Reguilon – 5

Ineffective in attack and often surrounded defensively. Not a good day for the Spaniard.

Pierre-Emile Hojberg – 4

He couldn’t get into the game at all, and was fortunate enough to last for 90 minutes based on his performance.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 5

The ball sloppy and harassed at every turn by Brighton’s midfield.

Diane Kulusevsky – 4

He was very lucky to still be on the field after the elbow in the first half. I couldn’t get into the game and it was taken off an hour later.

Harry Kane – 4

He seemed to be far from fast as he was marked by the Seagulls. He’s far from his creative and clinical best.

Heung Min Soon – 4

He looked lost because of the large spots of the lottery. One of his most understated performances in the Tottenham shirt this season.

Subs:

Lucas Moura – 6

He injected some spark into the Spurs squad initially, but it faded as the second half continued.

Harry Winks – 5

Keep the ball moving but sideways. He’s not the guy you want to turn up with when you need a purpose.

Stephen Bergwijn – N/A

Just in the last five minutes. Late launched a wide opportunity.

Brighton and Hove Albion

Robert Sanchez – 6

He didn’t have much to do, in fact he probably brought his deck chair and a good book to Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium.

Tariq Lamptey – 6

He was a strong runner and kept the Spurs defenders busy. I hope his injury isn’t too severe.

Joel Feltman – 7

Kane kept calm, and was solid defensively.

Louis Dunk – 7

Stronger than ever in the air or in construction.

Mark Cucurella – 7

He made a constant threat down the left flank, and put in another great performance. Could move this summer.

ENOC Mwepo – 5

He helped dominate the midfield in the first half, but was knocked out in the first half because he was on a yellow card and perhaps his last chance.

Yves Bisoma – 8

The best player on the pitch and he wasn’t even close. Whoever signs him this summer will be in luck if any potential off-pitch issues prove to be harmless.

Pascal Gross – 6

He went unnoticed for large parts of the match, but he worked hard for his team when he got off the ball and was tidy.

Moises Caicedo – 7

He gave a good report on himself in his second start in the Premier League

Alexis McAlister -7

He was bright and presented the biggest threat to Brighton, but he failed to hit the target with any of his efforts.

Leandro Trossard – 7

He was barely in the game for long periods, but he came with a nice finishing touch to deliver what was ultimately a winner for the Seagulls.

Subs:

Danny Welbeck – 5

His shot that went out for a throw pretty much summed up the tepid affair. I worked hard with it.

Adam Lallana – 5

The Brighton midfielder’s poise kept the ball well.

Sully March – N / A

He came in the last ten minutes but had little effect.
