Manchester United and their hierarchy have reportedly leaked rumors about Zinedine Zidane’s appointment as their next permanent coach as a ‘tactic’ in order to keep superstar Cristiano Ronaldo happy following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in October 2021.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner returned to Old Trafford in the closing days of the summer transfer window amid much fanfare, but cut a disappointing number for large parts of the season. And with Eric Ten Hag thinking it was an unpopular choice for many in the Red Devils’ dressing room, mirror report That the links with Zidane were made in order to keep the veteran player satisfied.
English media claimed that “Manchester United used ‘unfounded’ rumors linking Zinedine Zidane and their vacant managerial position as a tactic to keep Cristiano Ronaldo happy”.

Ronaldo running the European League season?
Cristiano Ronaldo has never experienced football in the European League before. During his first spell at Manchester United, his time at Real Madrid and his time with Juventus, he always came out to the Champions League anthem midweek.
But that may be about to change, unless there is a change of scenery on the 37-year-old’s roster this summer. Ronaldo’s goals have dried up, and Manchester United’s poor performance elsewhere has seen them sit in seventh place, as they currently stare at the Europa League Cup, Europe’s new third tier system, next season.
The top four appear to be dead and buried too, with the Red Devils currently priced at 16/1 to fix a six-point deficit over Spurs in the final weeks of the season.
Ronaldo may be in uncharted territory.
